Indiana Provides Additional Time for Licensing Requirements

Severe weather can disrupt much more than daily operations. When employees are displaced, offices are damaged, or important records become difficult to access, routine licensing responsibilities can become more difficult to manage.

Recognizing those challenges, the Indiana Department of Insurance has implemented a 60-day grace period following severe weather events that affected the state in August. The extension applies to the renewal and cancellation of Indiana licenses, certificates, and registrations. It also extends the time available for producers to complete continuing education requirements.

Additional Time for Renewals and CE

For licensing teams, the most important part of the bulletin is the extension of renewal requirements.

The Indiana Department of Insurance is providing an additional 60 days for affected licensees, certificate holders, and registrants to address renewal and cancellation requirements. Penalties associated with late payments during this period will be waived. The extension also applies to continuing education requirements for producers.

This gives affected individuals and organizations additional time to address licensing responsibilities while recovering from the severe weather events.

Temporary Address Changes Are Also Available

The Department also recognizes that severe weather can result in displaced personnel and damaged or inaccessible records. During the 60-day period, Indiana producers affected by the disaster may submit temporary address changes without a fee. The Department is also waving the $10 duplicate license fee for Indiana producers during this period.

These provisions may be particularly helpful for producers and agencies that are managing licensing records while dealing with changes to their normal business operations.

What Licensing Teams Should Review

Indiana licensing teams should review upcoming renewal activity and identify records that may be affected by the extension. It is also a good time to verify continuing education status and make sure internal renewal tracking reflects the additional time provided by the Department.

A grace period provides flexibility, but it does not eliminate the responsibility to maintain accurate licensing records. Once normal operations resume, teams should make sure outstanding renewals, CE requirements, and other licensing tasks are completed within the applicable extended timeframe.
