Who Is Disqualified from Getting an Insurance License?
Certain conditions may permanently or temporarily disqualify individuals from practicing insurance under federal law 18 U.S.C. § 1033. Convictions involving dishonesty or breach of trust bar individuals from obtaining an insurance license. Some misdemeanors require waiting through a disqualifying period, while other convictions require additional documentation to process an application.
Prohibited individuals may apply for a waiver by submitting written consent to the state Insurance Commissioner. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, with the state holding final authority on licensure eligibility.
