Individual Maine CE requirements are available on the Maine Bureau of Insurance website. The general CE requirements for producers typically include 24 hours of CE with 3 hours of ethics every two years. Search for information on courses and course providers.

Common Maine Licensing Compliance Mistakes

Maine’s licensing process creates several compliance risks for individual insurance licensees and organizations managing multiple producers.

user

Tracking the wrong renewal date.

Maine license renewal dates vary depending on whether the licensee is an individual, agency, resident, non-resident, adjuster, or adjusting firm.

user

Overlooking the CE requirement.

Although individual Maine insurance producer licenses are perpetual, licensees must still complete CE by the biennial renewal deadline for licenses to remain valid.

user

Confusing perpetual licenses with ones that require renewal.

Individual Maine insurance producer licenses are perpetual, but adjuster and business entity licenses require renewal.

user

Missing the first business entity license renewal date.

Business entity licenses issued more than 90 days before the renewal deadline must pay the renewal fee.

user

Failing to update contact information on time.

Changes in name, address, email, and administrative actions must be reported to the Maine Bureau of Insurance within 30 days.

user

Missing the appointment renewal deadline.

Company appointment renewals take place during the company’s license anniversary month. Companies first licensed between January and June renew appointments in even years. Companies first licensed between July and December renew appointments in odd years.
