South Dakota producers, take note!
The South Dakota Division of Insurance has announced updates to continuing education rules that aim to streamline compliance processes and reduce confusion. These changes, effective January 1, 2025, impact training requirements for long-term care insurance and the management of course rosters.
- Long-Term Care Insurance Training Adjustments (ARSD 20:06:21:74):
Producers licensed to sell long-term care insurance must now complete their four hours of ongoing training within their standard two-year renewal period, by the end of their birth month. This change replaces the previous schedule, which required training completion every even year, regardless of a producer’s renewal cycle. This update resolves timing confusion and aligns training deadlines with individual renewal schedules. Administrative Rule 20:06:21:74 | South Dakota Legislature
- Course Roster Retention Simplified (ARSD 20:06:18:05.01):
Providers are no longer required to collect an “original signature” for course rosters. The rule now accommodates modern practices, allowing electronic collection and retention of rosters. This update reflects current technology usage and simplifies administrative processes for continuing education providers. Administrative Rule 20:06:18:05.01 | South Dakota Legislature
Takeaways
These regulatory updates simplify continuing education requirements, making compliance more straightforward for both producers and providers. As the effective date of January 1, 2025, approaches, ensure you understand and implement these changes in your continuing education practices.
