The North Dakota Insurance Department has outlined the 2026 company appointment renewal process, including strict termination deadlines, payment requirements, and invoice timelines through NIPR. Companies must take proactive steps to review appointment lists, submit terminations before invoices are generated, and ensure full payment by the April deadline. Failure to comply will result in automatic appointment cancellations with no grace period, requiring companies to restart the appointment process for affected producers.
Key Renewal Dates and Timeline for 2026
North Dakota’s appointment renewal process follows a firm, date-driven structure that leaves little room for error. Companies should carefully track each milestone to avoid unintended terminations.
Termination Deadline: February 20, 2026
Renewal Period: March 2, 2026 – April 30, 2026
Late Renewal Period: No grace period is currently being offered
Invoice Availability: Beginning March 2, 2026
Final Payment Deadline: April 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM CT
All invoices will be removed from the NIPR website immediately after the payment deadline, and no grace period is offered.
Termination Requirements Before Invoice Generation
Before renewal invoices are created, companies must review their current appointment lists and determine which producer appointments they intend to keep.
Termination notices for individual appointments that will not be renewed must be received by NIPR no later than February 20, 2026. This allows sufficient processing time for updates to post to the Producer Database (PDB) before invoices are generated.
Once the invoice and appointment list are made available on March 2, 2026, companies can no longer terminate or remove appointments from the list. Every producer listed will require payment.
Current appointment lists are available through the North Dakota Insurance Department website using the Company Search Lookup.
Fees, Payments, and NIPR Processing Rules
Appointment renewals in North Dakota are processed electronically through NIPRand cannot be paid directly to the state.
Invoices exceeding the credit card limit must be paid via electronic check. Appointment renewal payments and NIPR processing fees are non-refundable, and partial payments will result in non-renewal.
Electronic payments processed through NIPR will immediately reflect as paid, with renewal transactions forwarded to the state within 24 hours.
Compliance Rules Companies Must Follow
North Dakota enforces strict business rules for appointment renewals:
Failure to pay the full invoice by the deadline results in automatic appointment cancellation
Once canceled, companies must submit new appointment requests for each producer
Invoices cannot be modified after generation
Inaccurate invoices should not be paid, companies must contact NIPR Support
Renewal invoices are sent to the company’s address on file
All renewal reminders are sent via email only
Keeping company contact information current is critical, as no paper renewal reminders are sent.
Summary
North Dakota’s 2026 appointment renewal process emphasizes early preparation, accurate recordkeeping, and timely payment. With no grace period and limited flexibility once invoices are generated, companies must proactively review appointment lists, submit terminations before February 20, and ensure full payment by April 30. Strong internal workflows and visibility in to appointments can help reduce last-minute risk and prevent costly appointment cancellations.
