Common West Virginia Licensing Compliance Mistakes

West Virginia’s licensing process creates several compliance risks for individual licensees and organizations managing multiple producers.

icon

Confusing individual and business entity license renewal dates.

Individual producer and adjuster licenses renew biennially. However, business entity licenses renew every year.

icon

Waiting too long to complete CE.

CE completed less than 30 days before the renewal date may not process in time for a punctual license renewal.

icon

Missing the appointment filing deadline.

Company appointments must be filed within 15 days of the first contract signed by the producer.

icon

Forgetting to update changes to contact information.

Changes to a licensee’s name, address, email, or other contact information must be made within 30 days via the NIPR or by filling out a WVOIC Address change form.

icon

Allowing certificates or fingerprints to expire.

Pre-licensing education certificates are valid for 6 months following course completion and fingerprints valid for 60 days.

icon

Assuming the exam allows for unlimited attempts.

The West Virginia insurance exam limits candidates to a maximum of 8 attempts per line of authority.
