Doing Business As (DBA)

“Doing Business As” is used by entities operating under fictitious trade names. It announces an alternative name that can be legally used in place of a business’s original name. Unlike LLC, it is not a business structure and does not provide the same legal protections.  

 

In most states, companies or individuals must file their DBA name with the secretary of state and register it on their insurance license.
