South Dakota Expands Licensing Requirements for Reinsurance Intermediaries

South Dakota will introduce a Reinsurance Intermediary license class on October 9, 2026. Along with the new license class, the state is updating several business entity and DRLP requirements. Reinsurance Intermediary applicants will need an appropriately licensed DRLP. Meanwhile, business entities must meet updated licensing conditions before submitting applications. The changes include renewal and appointment provisions for the new license class. Before the effective date, review entity and producer records to understand how the new requirements affect ongoing licensing activity.

Indiana Provides Additional Time for Licensing Requirements

Severe weather can disrupt much more than daily operations. When employees are displaced, offices are damaged, or important records become difficult to access, routine licensing responsibilities can become more difficult to manage. Recognizing those challenges, the Indiana Department of Insurance has implemented a 60-day grace period following severe weather events that affected the state in August. The extension applies to the renewal and cancellation of Indiana licenses, certificates, and registrations. It also extends the time available for producers to complete continuing education requirements.

I can hardly wait for Insurtech Connect Vegas (ITC Vegas) this September 28th, and I hope you will stop by and see us at Booth 3045. There are around 500 speakers and 600 exhibits, making ITC Vegas one of the largest and most exciting Insurtech events of the year. At Agenzee, we focus on licensing, compliance, appointments, and producer management. I’ll be at the event, talking to insurance professionals about our software, what is working, what is not, and our future plans for the platform.
