Alabama 2026 Company Appointment Renewals: Key Deadlines and Requirements
The Alabama Department of Insurance has announced its 2026 Individual Company Appointment Renewal period, with invoices becoming available January 6, 2026. Carriers and agencies must take proactive steps to manage renewals through NIPR, as electronic processing is mandatory. Companies must terminate any appointments they do not wish to renew by December 31, 2025. Late fees apply beginning March 2, and no appointments may be terminated once invoices are generated.
Renewal Availability and Key Deadlines
Appointment renewal invoices for the 2026 cycle will be available through NIPR beginning January 6, 2026. Companies have until March 1, 2026, to complete payments and avoid late fees. Termination requests for appointments not being renewed must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. CST on December 31, 2025, to ensure processing before invoices are created.
State-Specific Processing Rules
Alabama mandates that all appointment renewals be processed electronically through NIPR. Direct payments to the state are not accepted. Once renewal invoices are generated, companies cannot remove appointments from the list. Continuation fees will apply to each Insurance Producer, Service Representative, Title Insurance Agent, and Portable Electronics Insurance appointment listed.
Late Renewal Periods and Fees
Companies failing to meet the March 1, 2026, deadline will incur significant late fees. The renewal schedule includes progressive penalty tiers through May 31, 2026:
March 2–March 31: Late fee of $250 + invoice fee
April 1–April 30: Late fee of $500 + invoice fee
May 1–May 31: Late fee of $750 + invoice fee
Standard renewal fees remain at $25–$40 per appointment depending on license type.
Payment and Compliance Considerations
Electronic payments made through NIPR are processed immediately, with confirmation sent to the Alabama Department of Insurance within 24 hours. Companies must ensure accurate records and timely submission to avoid compliance issues. If a termination reason involves “Request Regulatory Review” or “Company Indebtedness,” a statement of facts must be filed within ten days with supporting documentation to the Department.
Summary
Timely processing of Alabama appointment renewals is critical for carriers and agencies to remain in good standing and avoid costly penalties. Review your producer roster early, ensure all desired terminations are submitted before December 31, and verify payments well before the March 1, 2026, due date.
