New applicants must meet Nevada eligibility standards, including age, residency, and background requirements.

What is the minimum age to apply for a new license?

Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old.

Do I need to provide any specific identification to apply?

Yes, you must have either a SSN (Social Security Number) or a FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number).

Is proof of residency required?

Yes, you are required to provide proof of residency within the state of Nevada.

Are there any exams I need to pass to get my license?

Yes, you must complete the state-approved licensing exam.

Do I need to complete fingerprinting as part of the application process?

Yes, fingerprinting is required.

Renewing a Producer License in Nevada

Complete and verify continuing education (CE) hours. Verify that all the requirements in your transcript are complete. The “status” must be “Compliant” in every category.
Submit an electronic application and pay licensing fees through the NIPR.

Renewal Period: License renewals are possible up to 90 days before the expiration date.

Late Renewals: Nevada offers a grace period of 30 days after a license expires to renew it after paying a late fee. A reinstatement is possible from 31 days up to one year following the expiration and a reinstatement fee applies.

Non-Resident Producer Licensing in Nevada

Nevada has reciprocity arrangements with most states and issues non-resident licenses in the same line(s) of authority to applicants who are compliant with their resident state’s requirements.

A licensee must hold an active license in good standing in the resident state and be appointed in Nevada.
Apply electronically via the National Insurance Producer Registry.

Note: Licensees can transfer a resident license from another state to Nevada within 90 days of relocating (after surrendering the previous resident license) without having to retake the licensing exam.

Licenses require renewal and completion of CE every 3 years. Renew your license anytime from 90 days before the expiration date.

What if I miss the Nevada insurance license renewal deadline?

If a licensee fails to complete CE requirements, a licensee has a 30-day grace period to complete a late renewal after fulfilling CE requirements and paying a late renewal fee of $250.00. From 31 days to one year, the licensee can reinstate the license for a fee of $435.00.

Beginning January 26, 2026, the Nevada Division of Insurance will enforce a new fingerprinting requirement designed to ensure applicants follow the correct licensing sequence. Applicants must first submit a license application through the NIPR or Sircon and provide a confirmation ID or transaction number on the Fingerprint Authorization Form before visiting a fingerprint vendor. This update supports DPS and FBI standards and aims to reduce processing delays, rejected fingerprints, and unnecessary costs for applicants and organizations.
