New applicants must meet Louisiana’s eligibility standards, including age, residency, and background requirements.

Applying for a New Producer License in Louisiana

The Louisiana Department of Insurance is the primary portal for viewing insurance licensing information and compliance requirements in Louisiana state.

Renewing a License

Renewing a Producer License in Louisiana

Licenses require renewal every 2 years on the last day of the licensee’s birth month. License renewals are possible up to 90 days before the expiration.

Non-Resident Producer Licensing

Louisiana has reciprocity arrangements with most states and issues non-resident licenses in the same line(s) of authority to applicants who are compliant with their resident state’s requirements. 

Business Entity Applications

Provide at least one individual Owners, Officers, Partners, or Directors (OPOD) entry listed as an owner or officer. Include one Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) with an active Louisiana license and major line of authority.

Continuing Education (CE)

CE requirements for insurance producers include:  

  • 24 hours of CE (including 3 hours of ethics) for life, accident and health, property, casualty, or personal lines renewal 

Deadline: Complete CE by the end of the birth month following the second license anniversary and every 2 years thereafter. CE must be completed before submitting a renewal application.

FAQs

Licenses require renewal and completion of CE every two years on the last day of your birth month. Renew your license anytime from 90 days before the expiration date.

If a licensee fails to renew before the expiration date, a late renewal is possible for up to 2 years after paying a late fee ($100 for one LOA, $105 for 2+ LOAs, $400 Surplus lines) and completing CE. After 2 years, license reinstatement is possible after paying a $75 fee.
