What is the minimum age to apply for a new license?

Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old.

Do I need to provide any specific identification to apply?

Yes, you must have either a SSN (Social Security Number) or a FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number).

Is proof of residency required?

Yes, you are required to provide proof of residency within the state of Illinois.

Are there any exams I need to pass to get my license?

Continuing Education (CE) Insurance Licensing Requirements in Illinois

CE requirements include:  

  • 24 hours (Including 3 hours in ethics) 
  • You must meet CE requirements at least ten (10) business days before the renewal date. 

Note: Non-resident agents must complete CE requirements at least one month before the expiration date.

FAQs

Licenses must be renewed every 2 years by the last day of the person’s birth month. Renew your license anytime from 90 days before the expiration date.

If a licensee fails to complete CE requirements a license will have to be reinstated after fulfilling CE requirements and paying a reinstatement fee ($430 residents or $760.00 non-residents). If the licensee fails to reinstate the license within one year, the licensee must apply as a new applicant.
