Rules and Requirements for Arkansas Property and Casualty/Health/Financial Insurance Licenses

New applicants must meet Arkansas’s eligibility standards, including age, residency, and background requirements.

What is the minimum age to apply for a new license?

Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old.

Do I need to provide any specific identification to apply?

Yes, you must provide either a SSN (Social Security Number) or a FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number).

Is proof of residency required?

Yes, you are required to provide proof of residency within the state of Arkansas.

Are there any exams I need to pass to get my license?

Yes, you must complete 20 hours (per LOA) of pre-licensing education and pass the appropriate producer licensing exam(s).

How to Apply for and Renew a Producer License in Arkansas

Applying for a New Producer License in Arkansas

Renewing a Producer License in Arkansas

Licenses require renewal and proof of CE compliance every 2 years before the expiration date on the last day of the licensee’s birth month. License renewals are possible up to 90 days before the expiration date.

Complete and verify continuing education (CE) hours. Verify that all the requirements in your transcript are complete.
Submit an electronic application and pay licensing fees through the NIPR.

Late Renewals: Late renewals are possible for up to one year in Arkansas after paying the late renewal fee plus the CE filing fee. After one year, the licensee must apply for a new license.

Non-Resident Producer Licensing in Arkansas

How to apply for a non-resident license:

Apply for a license through NIPR by choosing a Non-Resident License (NRL) Application and submit supporting documentation.

How to transfer a resident license from another state to Arkansas:

Surrender the previous resident state license or change it to a non-resident license.
Fill out the change of residency form.
Apply for an Arkansas resident producer license through NIPR and submit the background check.

Note: Licensees can transfer a resident license from another state to Arkansas within 90 days of relocating (after surrendering the previous resident license). Contact the Arkansas Department of Insurance via email to find out if you need to retake the licensing exams. No clearance letter is required.

Arkansas Business Entity Insurance License Applications

Provide at least one individual Owners, Officers, Partners, or Directors (OPOD) entry listed as an owner or officer. Include one Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) with an active Arkansas license and major line of authority.

Submit an electronic application online at the National Insurance Producer Registry.
Pay the state license fee of $35 (for resident business entities) and any additional fees.

Note: Business entity insurance licenses require renewal every 2 years on September 30th. Renew up to 90 days before the expiration date. Late renewals are possible for up to one year.

Continuing Education (CE)

CE requirements for insurance producers include:

24 hours of CE (including 3 hours of ethics) for Life, Accident/ Health/Sickness, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines every 2 years.

Exemptions: Producers who are 60 years (or older) or licensed for 15 consecutive years before July 1,2003 are exempt from CE requirements.
