New applicants must meet Alabama’s eligibility standards, including age, residency, and background requirements.

What is the minimum age to apply for a new license?

Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old.

Yes, you must provide Proof of Citizenship and either a SSN (Social Security Number) or a FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number).

Is proof of residency required?

Yes, you are required to provide proof of residency within the state of Alabama.

How to Apply for and Renew a Producer License in Alabama

Applying for a New Producer License in Alabama

The Alabama Department of Insurance is the primary portal for viewing insurance licensing information and compliance requirements in Alabama state.

Renewing a Producer License in Alabama

Licenses require renewal and proof of CE compliance every 2 years before the last day of the licensee’s birth month. License renewals are possible up to 90 days before the expiration date.  

Non-Resident Producer Licensing in Alabama

How to apply for a non-resident license: Apply for a license through NIPR by choosing a Non-Resident License (NRL) Application and submit supporting documentation. 

Alabama Business Entity Insurance License Applications

Provide at least one individual Owners, Officers, Partners, or Directors (OPOD) entry listed as an owner or officer. Include one Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) with an active Alabama license and major line of authority.

Continuing Education (CE)

CE requirements for insurance producers include:  

  • 24 hours of CE (including 3 hours of ethics) for Life, Accident & Health or Sickness, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines, and Bail Bonds every 2 years.
