Alaska Adjuster License Exemptions: 2025 Guidelines After January Windstorms
In the wake of the severe windstorms that swept across Southcentral Alaska in January 2025, including the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the Municipality of Anchorage, and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, the Director of Insurance has declared a catastrophe under Alaska Statute (AS) 21.27.860. This declaration enables nonresident independent adjusters to apply for temporary license exemptions to meet the state’s urgent needs. Key Details on Independent Adjuster Exemptions
Who Qualifies?
Nonresident independent adjusters licensed and in good standing in their home state are eligible.
Designated home state licenses are not valid for reciprocity purposes.
Application Process
Apply for exemptions or independent adjuster licenses via NIPR.com.
Exemptions are valid for an initial 90-day period, with possible extensions by the Director to ensure consumer needs are met.
Limitations and Requirements
Adjusters can handle only one loss claim per year without a license unless granted an exemption.
Those wishing to continue operating beyond the exemption period must secure a formal independent adjuster license.
Reciprocity for Licensure
Independent adjusters licensed in their home state may be eligible for licensure in Alaska without additional exams.
Otherwise, applicants must pass the Alaska Adjuster license examination.
