Renewing an Insurance License in Texas

Complete and verify continuing education (CE) hours biennially by the end of licensee’s birth month. Have a question about your agent or adjuster license?
Submit online license renewal application.

Renewal Period: Licenses must be renewed every two years. Renewals are possible 90 days before the license expiration date.

Late Renewals: If less than 90 days have passed, a license renewal is possible by completing a renewal application, submitting evidence of CE compliance and paying the renewal fee in addition to a fee that is one-half of the renewal fee. If the renewal is more than 90 days but less thank one year, a new application is required, and penalties apply.

Non-refundable Texas licensing fees apply for appointments, exams, fingerprinting, and other services as follows.

State Exam	$33 single line $43 multiline	Veterans who pass the Texas insurance exams can apply to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to receive reimbursement.
Fingerprinting	$41.50	An exemption from a fingerprint background check for those who have already submitted fingerprints and are actively registered. Check the Texas Administrative Code for further details.

Additional Notes: All Texas licensing fees are non-refundable per section Article 21.07 §6C(a) and are to be paid by check or money order.

Continuing Education (CE) Insurance Licensing Requirements in Texas

CE requirements include 24 hours biennially for major lines (including 3 hours in ethics) and 10 hours biennially for limited lines. A licensee may complete any Texas-approved general or ethics/consumer protection course. At least 50% of the hours must be in the classroom and the rest may be self-study.
