Rules and Requirements for Missouri Property and Casualty/Health/Financial Insurance Licenses

New applicants must meet Missouri’s eligibility standards, including age, residency, and background requirements.

What is the minimum age to apply for a new license?

Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old.

Do I need to provide any specific identification to apply?

Yes, you must provide a SSN (Social Security Number) or a FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number).

Is proof of residency required?

Yes, you are required to provide proof of residency within the state of Missouri.

How to Apply for and Renew a Producer License in Missouri

Applying for a New Producer License in Missouri

Renewing a Producer License in Missouri

Licenses require renewal and proof of CE compliance every 2 years before the expiration date on the producer’s birthday. License renewals are possible up to 90 days before the expiration date.

Complete and verify continuing education (CE) hours. Verify that all the requirements in your transcript are complete.
Submit an electronic application and pay licensing fees through the NIPR.

Late Renewals: Missouri offers a grace period of one year to reinstate an individual license after the expiration date. Late renewals are charged $25 per month for up to one year past license expiration date, plus the renewal fee. After one year, applicants must restart the initial licensing process.

Non-Resident Producer Licensing in Missouri

Missouri issues non-resident licenses in the same line(s) of authority. Check the CE reciprocity arrangements between Missouri and your home state.

How to apply for a non-resident license:

Apply for a license through NIPR by choosing a Non-Resident License (NRL) Application and submitting supporting documentation along with fees.

How to transfer a resident license from another state to Missouri:

If you have an active non-resident license, fill out the Change of Producer Status Form within 30 days of moving to Missouri. Contact the Missouri Department of Insurance for more details.

Note: Licensees can transfer a resident license from another state to Missouri within 90 days of relocating (after surrendering the previous resident license) without retaking the licensing exams.

Missouri Business Entity Insurance License Applications

Provide at least one individual Owners, Officers, Partners, or Directors (OPOD) entry listed as an owner or officer. Include one Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) with an active Missouri license and major line of authority.

Submit an electronic application online at the National Insurance Producer Registry.
Pay the state license fee of $100 and any additional fees.

Note: Business entity insurance licenses require renewal every 2 years before the expiration date. Renew up to 90 days before the deadline. Late renewals pay an additional fee of $25 per month for up to one year, after which the licensing process will have to be restarted.
