New applicants must meet Mississippi’s eligibility standards, including age, residency, and background requirements.

Yes, you must have either a SSN (Social Security Number) or a FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number).

Do I need to complete fingerprinting as part of the application process?

No, fingerprinting is NOT required.

How to Apply for and Renew a Producer License in Mississippi

Applying for a New Producer License in Mississippi

The Mississippi Insurance Department is the main interface to view licensing information and compliance requirements with the Mississippi Insurance Department.

Renewing a Producer License in Mississippi

Mississippi licenses require renewal every 2 years on the last day of the licensee’s birth month. License renewals are possible up to 90 days before the expiration date.

Non-Resident Producer Licensing in Mississippi

Mississippi has reciprocity arrangements with most states and issues non-resident licenses in the same line(s) of authority to applicants who are compliant with their resident state’s requirements.

Mississippi Business Entity Insurance License Applications

Provide at least one individual Owners, Officers, Partners, or Directors (OPOD) entry listed as an owner or officer.

Non-refundable licensing fees apply throughout the licensing process for appointments, exams, and other services as follows.

Continuing Education (CE)

The requirements depend on the license type and the number of years since the initial licensure. Individual requirements are available at the NIPR licensing center. Search the pre-licensing and CE requirements to find specific courses according to license type, city, or provider.  

The CE courses must match the licensee’s lines of authority. LH and PC licenses require 50% of hours in each line. An ethics update course is required as part of the CE hours.

Licensed 25 + years Producers aged 65 and older who have a license for 25 continuous years are exempt from CE requirements.

Deadline: Complete CE by the end of the birth month following the second license anniversary and biennially thereafter. CE must be completed before submitting a renewal application.

FAQs

Licenses require renewal and completion of CE every two years on the last day of your birth month. Renew your license anytime from 90 days before the expiration date.

If a licensee fails to renew before the expiration date, the license reinstatement is possible for up to one year after paying a 50% penalty. After 1 year, the licensee must apply as a new applicant and retake the exams.
