New applicants must meet Mississippi’s eligibility standards, including age, residency, and background requirements.

Applying for a New Producer License in Mississippi

The Mississippi Insurance Department is the main interface to view licensing information and compliance requirements with the Mississippi Insurance Department.

Renewing a Producer License in Mississippi

Mississippi licenses require renewal every 2 years on the last day of the licensee’s birth month. License renewals are possible up to 90 days before the expiration date.

Complete continuing education (CE) hours biennially by the end of the licensee’s birth month.
Submit renewal application and fees.

Late Renewals: Please note that Mississippi does not offer a grace period after a license expires. Failure to renew within the allotted timeframe results in the cancellation of the license and all appointments. The licensee will have to reinstate the license and pay a $150 fee.

Note: Resident license periods exceeding 18 months require 25 hours of CE (including 3 hours of ethics) for renewal. License periods of 18 months or less require 12 hours of CE for renewal.

Mississippi has reciprocity arrangements with most states and issues non-resident licenses in the same line(s) of authority to applicants who are compliant with their resident state’s requirements.

Mississippi has reciprocity arrangements with most states and issues non-resident licenses in the same line(s) of authority to applicants who are compliant with their resident state’s requirements.

Step 1: A licensee must hold an active license in good standing in the resident state and be appointed in Mississippi.
Step 2: Apply electronically via the National Insurance Producer Registry.

Note: Licensees can transfer a resident license from another state to Mississippi within 90 days of relocating (after surrendering the previous resident license) without having to retake the licensing exams. A Letter of Clearance from the previous resident state is required.

Provide at least one individual Owners, Officers, Partners, or Directors (OPOD) entry listed as an owner or officer.

Provide at least one individual Owners, Officers, Partners, or Directors (OPOD) entry listed as an owner or officer. Include one Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) with an active Mississippi license and major line of authority.

Step 1: Complete the Insurance Producer Business Entity application form Or NAIC Uniform Business Entity application form. Submit an electronic application online at the National Insurance Producer Registry.
Step 2: Pay the state license fee of $200 and additional fees.

Note: Business entity insurance licenses renew every two years on May 31st.

Continuing Education (CE)

The requirements depend on the license type and the number of years since the initial licensure. Individual requirements are available at the NIPR licensing center. Search the pre-licensing and CE requirements to find specific courses according to license type, city, or provider.

The CE courses must match the licensee’s lines of authority. LH and PC licenses require 50% of hours in each line. An ethics update course is required as part of the CE hours.

Licensed 25 + years	Producers aged 65 and older who have a license for 25 continuous years are exempt from CE requirements.

Deadline: Complete CE by the end of the birth month following the second license anniversary and biennially thereafter. CE must be completed before submitting a renewal application.
