Continuing Education (CE) Insurance Licensing Requirements in Michigan
CE requirements include 24 hours biennially including:
- 3 hours in ethics
- 21 hours in P&C lines in any study format (self-study, classroom, etc.)
Exemptions: Severe hardship exemptions exist for licensees whose license lapses during terminal illness or active military service.

When do I need to renew my Michigan producer license?
Licenses are perpetual, but require completion of CE every two years, before your license renewal date.
What if I miss the Michigan producer license renewal deadline?
If a licensee fails to complete CE requirements, the license will be suspended for 90 days or until the requirement is met. After 90 days, license qualifications are terminated, and the license will have to be reinstated. A license can be reinstated for up to one year. After one year, the licensee must apply as a new applicant.
