Rules and Requirements for Florida Property and Casualty Insurance Licenses

New applicants must meet Florida’s eligibility standards, including age, residency, and background requirements.

Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old.

Yes, you must have a SSN (Social Security Number) with U.S. work authorization.

How to Apply or Renew an Insurance License in Florida

Applying for a New Producer License

MyProfile at DICE is the main interface to view licensing information and compliance requirements with the Florida Department of Financial Services' Division of Insurance Agent and Agency Services.

Renewing a License

Florida licenses are perpetual, so renewals are not required. A license only expires if the licensee fails to make an appointment for more than 48 months or or fail to complete continuing education requirements.

Non-Resident Producer Licensing

Provide license number or National Producer Number (from the licensed resident state) or Social Security Number (first-time applicants) or FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number).

Business Entity Applications

Provide at least one individual Owner, Officer, Partner or Director (OPOD) entry listed as an owner or officer.

Florida Producer Licensing Fees

Non-refundable licensing fees apply throughout the licensing process for appointments, exams, fingerprinting, and other services as follows.

Insurance Pre-licensing and Continuing Education (CE) in Florida

The requirements depend on the license type and number of years since the initial licensure. Individual requirements are available in the licensee’s MyProfile account at DICE. Search the pre-licensing and CE requirements to find specific courses according to license type, city, or provider.  

The CE courses must match the licensee’s lines of authority. LH and PC licenses require 50% of hours in each line. A Law and Ethics update course is required as part of the CE hours.

Tip: Up to 24 hours of excess CE credits can be carried over to the next compliance period from the previous period.

Deadline: Complete CE by the end of the birth month following the second license anniversary and biennially thereafter. CE must be completed before submitting a renewal application.
