Carrier Appointment

There are two steps in obtaining a Carrier Appointment – first the agent/agency must be contracted with the carrier.  Second, the Carrier then submits an appointment request to the State Department of Insurance (DOI) to inform the state that the carrier has approved this agent/agency to write business on their behalf. 

Step 1 – Contract 

A carrier appointment is a formal agreement between a carrier and producer that legally authorizes an agent, broker, or agency to sell the carrier’s insurance products.  

Step 2 – Appointment Management 

Various licensing, background, and state regulation requirements must be met to ensure credibility. Appointments allow producers to access carrier products, build a client base, and get paid commissions.
