Insurance Pre-licensing and Continuing Education (CE) in New York
CE requirements include:
15 hours for life, accident and health or sickness, property, casualty, or personal lines
- 1 hour of insurance law instruction.
- 1 hour of ethics and professionalism instruction.
- 1 hour of diversity, inclusion, and elimination of bias instruction.
- 1 hour of flood insurance instruction if the licensee is licensed to sell one or more lines of property/casualty insurance.
- 3 hours of enhanced flood insurance instruction if the licensee sells flood insurance through the NFIP.

FAQs
When do I need to renew my New York insurance license?
Licenses are perpetual but require renewal and completion of CE every two years. If your birthday falls on an even/odd numbered year, you’ll renew your license on an even/odd numbered year. Renew your license anytime from 180 days before the expiration date.
What if I miss the New York insurance license renewal deadline?
If a licensee fails to complete CE requirements a licensee has 2 years to relicense. After 2 years, the licensee must apply as a new applicant and retake the exams.
