Complete and verify continuing education (CE)
Submit an electronic application and pay licensing fees through the NIPR.

Renewal Period: Licenses require renewal biennially on the last day of the licensee’s birth month. License renewals are possible up to 90 days before the expiration.

Late Renewals: New Jersey has a 30-day grace period to renew a producer license without paying a late fee. From 31 days to one year after the expiration date, a late renewal is possible after paying a late fee of $250. ^III

Non-Resident Producer Licensing

Non-Resident Producer Licensing in New Jersey

New Jersey has reciprocity arrangements with most states and issues non-resident licenses in the same line(s) of authority to applicants who are compliant with their resident state’s requirements.

A licensee must hold an active license in good standing in the resident state and be appointed in New Jersey.
Submit fingerprints through IdentoGO.
Apply electronically via the National Insurance Producer Registry.

Note: Licensees can transfer a resident license from another state to New Jersey within 90 days of relocating (after surrendering the previous resident license) without having to retake the licensing exams.^I The system automatically confirms the good standing of a license without a letter of certification.^II

Insurance Pre-licensing and Continuing Education (CE) in New Jersey

CE requirements include:

24 CE credits for life, accident and health or sickness, property, casualty, or personal lines
- 3 credit hours of ethics
- 3 credit hours of flood insurance instruction if the licensee sells flood insurance through the NFIP.

When do I need to renew my New Jersey insurance license?
