What is the minimum age to apply for a new license?

Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old.

Yes, you must have either a SSN (Social Security Number) or a FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number). Non-US citizens must submit a notarized copy of the Citizenship Affidavit Form

Yes, you are required to provide proof of residency within the state of Georgia.

Complete and verify continuing education (CE)
Submit an electronic application and pay licensing fees through the NIPR.

Renewal Period: Licenses require renewal every 2 years before the last day of the licensee’s birth month. License renewals are possible up to 60 days before the expiration date.

Late Renewals: Georgia has a grace period for late renewals up to 15 days past the expiration date. Failing to renew on time means the licensee will have to begin the reinstatement process. Reinstatement is possible for up to 12 months after the expiration date.

Non-Resident Producer Licensing

Non-Resident Producer Licensing in Georgia

Georgia has reciprocity arrangements with most states and issues non-resident licenses in the same line(s) of authority to applicants who are compliant with their resident state’s requirements.

A licensee must hold an active license in good standing in the resident state and be appointed in Georgia.
Apply electronically via the National Insurance Producer Registry.

Note: Licensees can transfer a resident license from another state to Georgia within 90 days of relocating (after surrendering the previous resident license) without having to retake the licensing exams. Request a letter of clearance from your current state.

Insurance Pre-licensing and Continuing Education (CE) in Georgia

CE requirements include:

24 hours (3 hours in ethics) for agents with less than 20 years of service.
20 hours (3 hours in ethics) for agents with more than 20 years of service.
12 hours (3 hours in ethics) for CPCU, CLU, FLMI, CIC, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), ChFC, Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI), and Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
10 hours of self-study for credit insurance only.

Licenses require renewal and completion of CE every two years. Renew your license anytime from 90 days before the expiration date.

What if I miss the Georgia insurance license renewal deadline?
